About the Role

Knoq.com is looking for an experienced technology professional with experience on at least one major Rails project to join our team.

Responsibilities:

Senior Rails Engineer

  • Build cool new features
  • Make current features work better
  • Fix bugs
  • Find best solutions to technical challenges regarding data, interfaces, 3rd party partnerships and the like

 

Product Manager

  • Help define and refine the feature set and UI
  • Contribute to discussions on strategic direction, increasing value/usage and virality
  • Work with Founders and User Experience to engineer the best solutions

 

Operations Engineer

  • Google analytics configuration, monitoring and analysis
  • Server configuration
  • Deployment of releases
  • Help decide best tools to use for all things technical, implement them in our environment
  • Manage outages and critical bug fixes

 

Lean Evangelist

  • Advise and help the team adhere to hypothesis testing, MVPism, test development and user feedback collection.

 

Qualifications:

  • Experience delivering new, innovative features using Ruby on Rails, MySQL, jQuery, and other open source tools
  • Comfortable developing any portion of Rails application stack from data store layer to browser
  • Insistence on Test Driven Development
  • Experience with different data access challenges, caching techniques, scalability best practices
  • Strong database and data modeling skills — experience with MySQL and NoSQL variants, like Hadoop and other map/reduce technologies is a plus
  • Excel at designing and iterating solutions in small teams
  • Strong software engineering fundamentals and understanding of data structures and algorithms.
  • Proficiency working in a Linux environment
  • Excited to work in a highly iterative development process with continual production releases
  • 5+ years developing web applications
  • BS, Computer Science or equivalent work experience

 

An ideal candidate would also have:

  • Strong Javascript and XHR coding skills including experience, jQuery and/or Backbone.js preferred
  • Good knowledge of HTML and CSS best practices
  • Experience building multiple consumer facing web applications backed by MySQL
  • Strong sense of what makes for an application highly usable
  • Previous experience with an early-stage venture-backed startup
  • Experience with cloud computing (particularly Amazon Web Services or Heroku)
