We're looking for a talented and passionate software engineer to join the FreeAgent Engineering team in a senior capacity. You will be responsible for leading on internal projects to deliver key new features and improvements to FreeAgent, our flagship Ruby on Rails app.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement new FreeAgent features
  • Maintain and improve legacy code for performance and stability
  • Work with other areas of our business and external partners to develop new requirements
  • Have the ability and personality to successfully manage a sub-team and rapidly deliver projects
  • Write stable, maintainable, idiomatic code
  • Occasionally assist the Support Engineering team

Valued qualities and experience

  • A background in software engineering, ideally but not necessarily in Ruby/Rails
  • An impressive track record of developing high quality web applications
  • Ability to understand and write excellent SQL (we use MySQL)
  • Ability to focus on the job and get things done
  • Belief in FreeAgent and our mission to democratise accounting for small businesses
  • A friendly, positive and cheerful attitude

Desired Skills

  • BSc/Masters degree in Computer Science or equivalent
  • Previous start-up experience
  • Knowledge of web security concepts
  • Experience working on high-traffic web applications

We're looking for people to work full-time with the team in our lovely Edinburgh office, but we would consider a remote working arrangement for exceptional candidates. We have a relocation package available and Edinburgh is a fantastic place to live!
